Twin Puerperiums

March 18, 2012

Does intention to blog count as blogging?

I didn’t think so.

Luckily, I have some adorable finished knits to make it up to you.

These are matching sweaters for my cousin’s twin boys that were born very early and were around 2 lbs at birth. They’ve now been home for over a month and seem to be doing very well. I can’t wait to meet them, but it will likely be a while since they live on the East Coast.

I used Plymouth Encore for both sweaters so that they would wash up nicely in the machine. The contrast color for each is the same colorway of Encore Colorspun, a yarn with long movement between colors. I would have loved to use Noro or the like, but washability won out this time.

These sweaters may not fit the little guys for long, as they’re growing quickly, but they’ll look cute while they do fit!

Pattern: Kelly Brooker’s Puerperium Cardigan (free on ravelry)
Yarn: 1 skein Encore Colorspun #7991, 1/2 skein each Encore Worsted #6001 (brown) and #0555 (teal)
Needles: US 6 24″ Addi Naturas and Clover bamboo dpns
Made for: the Olson Twins
Timeline: 4 February – 8 March 2012
Modifications: copied striping from others on ravelry
Worst Part: anticipation of sewing on the buttons (actually doing it wasn’t so bad)
Best Part: stopping every few rows to admire the cuteness
